As a part of my MBA program, I enrolled in the Entrepreneurial Finance course. The assessment process required a role-play exercise in which my group represented the buy-side while the target group represented the sell-side in the acquisition of a company. This novel and challenging process made me curious about the overall concept of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and its complete scope. In my research, IMAA was featured many times, and I enrolled in the program. After completing two courses, I can attest that every experience has provided me with new perspectives on how to approach deals and a shift in my understanding of stakeholder engagement/management. I decided to take the valuation training because I wanted to expand my knowledge in this matter, and to reintroduce myself into the world of M&A, since I had been doing consulting mainly in strategic planning and financial analysis. To accomplish this, I trusted the combination of the Institute for Mergers, Acquisitions and Alliances (IMAA) and Prof. Aswath Damodaran, known as the “Dean of Valuation”. Definitively, I do recommend this training to any professional who wants to expand their knowledge of valuations. I participated in Prof. Aswath Damodoran’s valuation training in May 2023. The course was a practical deep dive into various valuation methods and a breath of fresh air, addressing a range of topics from what makes up a good valuation (e.g. narrative AND numbers), the key drivers of value (e.g. cash flows, growth, risk) and how the internet age as defined by zero distribution/marginal costs has changed the way we need to look at valuing companies in the modern world. The M&AP and IM&A online, self-paced courses allowed me to balance my professional commitments with my desire to expand my knowledge in mergers and acquisitions. While I found the course content comprehensive and up-to-date, there were occasional challenges with the user interface, particularly in tracking progress and navigation across different device platforms. The convenience of online learning and the accessibility of course materials from anywhere were definite strengths of the programs, however.

In general, IMAA’s M&AP and IM&A certification programs provide valuable knowledge and flexibility for professionals seeking to excel in mergers and acquisitions. The learning journey towards the International Mergers & Acquisitions (IM&A) Expert and Certified Post-Mergers Integration (CPMI) Expert in July and August 2022 has been inspirational and rewarding.

My decision to commit to this high value professional certification were on several decision consideration. First, the international professional standing and purpose of the Institute for Mergers, Acquisitions, and Alliances (IMAA). Rohit is an expert in corporate finance, business valuation and financial modelling. I attended the IM&A programme and Rohit brought us through the business component of the programme. His teaching approach is based on extensive technical knowledge and practical experience.
