I decided to enroll in the M&AP program because I wanted to deepen my knowledge of all the processes involved in an M&A transaction as well as learn about global best practices in these processes, in the same way, to hear the various practical experiences of other participants. I thoroughly enjoyed the IM&A Virtual Classroom program. IMAA had really good professional experts who practice M&A as faculties to bring in very wide experience and cover every scope of the M&A activities . I chose to pursue the IM&A and M&AP programs in order to gain knowledge that would allow me to better identify the tools necessary to enhance the value-add components of the merger and acquisition process. I wanted to sharpen my vantage point of the entire acquisition process from both a macro and micro level. These programs have given me the roadmap to discovering the integral intangibles, that are often times overlooked, which I will utilize in all of my future business endeavors. I decided to take the courses online due to the inherent accessibility and convenience of being able to receive the same world renown, quality education from the comfort of my home. I found that the online content was strategically constructed in a way that was digestible and relatable which allowed me to view the concepts from various perspectives. I felt strongly that by completing the IM&A and M&AP programs I could then leverage the knowledge accumulated for value-add purposes within my current industry. I have been following Prof. Damodaran for a long time, reading some of his books, his blog and papers. I think that Prof. Damodaran has a “gift” for everything to make sense within a valuation, while keeping it simple and transparent. During my career of more than 20 years as a fundamental institutional investor, I have dealt with extreme scenarios like the 2000 Internet bubble, 2007/2008 GFC, QE, negative interest rates, COVID-19, etc. I think it is convenient to come back to fundamental basics, from time to time.
The online classroom was quite dynamic, with different profiles and interesting discussions. Prof. Damodaran is an excellent communicator and perfectly manages the time and attention to capture the audience. I found the course useful. I was afraid it was too basic but, on the contrary, it is quite actual, and it helped us to better undertake valuations of non-traditional businesses and startups, always from a fundamental and common-sense perspective.
I strongly recommend the course, both to junior practitioners to strengthen the basic pillars of valuation, and to senior professionals as a healthy upgrade of the valuation foundations and its application to new businesses.
