I’d say like all business, COVID has certainly created new issues and new opportunities. Challenges I’ve seen in the mergers I’ve worked on during COVID have been the communication/change management/cultural primarily. Not being able to have in person due diligence, day 1, town halls, etc. definitely hampers the teams’ abilities to gain those in person synergies that make those interactions more successful. In some, the target company have had relatively new management that has also not had a lot of direct interaction with his/her own team, making the influence of those leaders a bit less as well. All that’s made the people integration a bit more challenging for sure.
