While technology integration is an important aspect of many M&A deals, it is not always at the center of all integration activity. The focus of integration activity depends on the goals and priorities of the acquiring company and in many cases is rather the means than the goal of the integration.
Would it be safe to say that it’s a foundational element for all areas (finance/acct, HR, Sales, Distribution, Manufacturing) of integration? I know of no integration efforts that don’t include IT systems.
I would say that IT integration would be among the key areas to consider – it should be a major area for due diligence especially when you are looking at the merger of the large companies with legacy IT systems
